Two men threatened to finish off my family, says Ingle

The case of death of Nagpur girl Yogita Thakre has taken a new twist with Kishore Ingle, a local activist helping her family, alleging threat to his life and family. A complaint has been registered at a police station in Nagpur.

Two persons, wearing monkey caps, arrived on a bike at Mr. Ingle's house late on Friday evening. “They were young. They did not reveal who they were. They said:Abhi tune jo kiya Yogita ke case mein vo ho gaya. Abhi tera naam dikha to sare khandaan ko khatam kar denge [What you have done so far in Yogita's case is done. But if henceforth we see your name with the case, we will finish off your family],” Mr. Ingle told The Hindu on the phone. One of the two men dropped a pistol on the floor during the exchange.

The mysterious death of Yogita, 7, has attracted media attention since the body was found in a car parked in BJP president Nitin Gadkari's house in Nagpur. A Right to Information (RTI) application filed by Mr. Ingle has revealed how investigation in the case is fraught with discrepancies and loopholes. On the order of the High Court, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Mr. Ingle alleged that the miscreants also referred to the RTI information. They said, “After the RTI query, you are all over the place. The family is not as concerned as you are. Don't trouble our sahib.”

Mr. Ingle, father of two children, was alone at home at the time. “My children had gone to tuition classes and my wife was at her clinic.”

On Friday night, the Kotwali police registered a non-cognisable offence under Section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
