Delhi is unsafe for children too, reveals NCRB data -Rajesh Ahuja

Delhi is most unsafe for children with a whopping 166.9 cases registered for every 100,000 children, the latest data of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has revealed.

According to the NCRB, crimes against children include offences like murder, infanticide and rape against the country's population below the age of 18 years.

Out of the total 89,423 cases of crime against children registered in the country, the maximum number or 15,085 cases were registered in Madhya Pradesh during. But in Delhi the crime rate - determined from the number of cases registered for every 100,000 children - was 166.9 during 2014.

According to the data, 9350 cases of crime were registered against in 2014 in comparison to 7199 in 2013 in Delhi.
 
Goa comes second with a crime rate of 63.5 and a total 330 cases of crime against children getting registered in the state. Uttar Pradesh saw 14,835 such cases being registered at crime rate of 16.7 per 100,000 children. In Union territory of Chandigarh, 208 cases were registered at a crime rate of 52.

Other states that may be considered unsafe for children in terms of crime and crime rate are those of Maharashtra (8115 cases) at a crime rate of 21.4 followed by Chhattisgarh (4358 cases) at crime rate of 43.4 and Mizoram (178 cases) at crime rate of 48.

In 2014, 1902 children were murdered in the country and the number of rapes and incidents of infanticide stood at 12,767 and 115 respectively.
