New Delhi: Election office in Delhi today issued notices to five candidates for suspected paid news and advertisement in print media and social media websites.

The District Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (Central) directed returning officers of the respective assembly constituencies to issue notices to BJP candidate from Sadar Bazar, Jai Parkash, and Congress candidate from Moti Nagar, Sushil Gupta, for suspected paid news and seek their response within 24 hours.

Besides, three candidates have been issued notice for advertisement on social media websites without certification.

District MCMC has referred the matter to the returning officer of Chandni Chowk to issue notices to local candidates Suman Kumar Gupta (BJP) and Parlad Singh Sawhney (Congress) and to Congress candidate from Patel Nagar, Rajesh Lilothia, for advertisement on social media.

"As per norms of the committee further action will be decided on the basis of fact and circumstances explained by candidates. The matter will be sent to State level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC), if the candidates failed to justify their stand, said Ashima Jain, District Election Officer (Central).

The committee also directed the candidates to withdraw the advertisement material from websites, said Jain.
