NAGPUR: In a shocking incident a city school issued transfer certificates (TC) to two siblings without showing any cause or informing their parents beforehand. TOI had reported on July 5 that the Mahatma Gandhi Centennial primary school (MGC) in Jaripatka had refused entry to two of its students. After their father filed a complaint with the education department, the school sent the TC for both the kids by post without assigning any reason.

Education officers visited the school saying that the students be taken back immediately, but to their shock the management bluntly refused. Deepak Bajaj, secretary, of Sindhu Education Society which manages the school was unavailable for comment.

But speaking to TOI last week Bajaj had blamed the students' parent for harassing the management. "Pramod Bhagchandani has been creating problems for us right from day one. His two sons are enrolled in the primary section and he always keeps harassing us by alleging that we mistreat his children, punish them etc. Lot of teachers have complained about Bhagchandani claiming he personally harasses them too," Bajaj had said.

Stunned by Bajaj's refusal to adhere to their orders, the education department swung into action and surveyed the school on July 13. A team led by Someshwar Netam, education officer (primary), found that many rules were being violated in the school. An internal report on the visit prepared on July 15, copy of which is with TOI, comes down heavily on the school for various violations including provisions of the Right To Education (RTE).

The education department has also sent a show-cause notice to the school asking for explanations for the violations. Speaking to TOI, education officer Netam, said, "We were surprised to find so many violations of rules in the school. I have prepared a detailed report and sent a notice to the school. Our concern is that the students' education should not be hampered and as per RTE they cannot just kick out the kids from the school."
