Issues notice to U.P. govt., seeks report within four weeks

Describing the Bulandshahr incident as yet another instance of lawlessness, the National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh government and the police over the death of two people, including Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, at the hands of a mob on Monday.

The NHRC said it had taken suo motu cognisance of media reports about the killings following rumours of alleged cow slaughter. Issuing notices to the U.P. Chief Secretary and the Director- General of Police, the NHRC sought detailed reports, including on the action taken against the attackers, within four weeks.

“The reported incident is indicative of yet another incident of violent protest and rampaging by the unruly mob exposing lawlessness and the failure of the administration to tackle sensitive issues and situations,” an NHRC statement read.
