Rajasthan Energy Minister Jitendra Singh has said that farmers waiting for electricity connections would be given agricultural power connections on priority and the “entire backlog” across the State would be cleared by this month-end.

Addressing a review meeting at the Vidyut Vitaran Nigam headquarters in Jodhpur on Thursday, Mr. Singh said the prompt release of power connections would facilitate proper irrigation of rabi crops.

“We wish to maintain the pace of agricultural production after an impressive harvesting of [kharif] crops this year,” he said.

Regular monitoring

Mr. Singh laid emphasis on regular monitoring of release of connections on the basis of waiting lists, which he said should be strictly complied with to ensure full transparency.

Affirming that there was no shortage of transformers in the State, he pointed out that there are standing instructions for replacement of defective transformers within 72 hours.

According to an official release, the Energy Minister said the power companies in the State would establish new units of the total capacity of 3,150 MW against the target of 1,790 MW during the 11 {+t} {+h} Five Year Plan. The units of 1,290 MW have already started functioning, while work on new units of 1,860 MW would be completed by March 2012.)
