Agriculture dept has begun the process of collecting data on farmers and their lands

Mysore (Karnataka): Process is on to provide unique identification numbers, similar to ‘Aadhaar' issued by the Unique Identification of Authority of India, to farmers in Karnataka.

Under the scheme, all details about farmers and their lands, collected under the ‘K-Kisan' scheme, will be pooled and a unique identification number like the ‘Aadhaar' will be issued to farmers. Issual of such a number will ensure access to all primary information relating to a farmer and his land which is considered vital to the success of the pro-farmer schemes of the government.

The K-Kisan (Karnataka Krishi Information Services and Networking) scheme was launched last year to ensure better coordination between its various agencies to guide farmers on the effective and innovative farm practices. The Rs 53-crore project is aimed at ensuring a 24X7 service for farmers and create a database of all farmers' families.

Under the scheme, the government has networked all ‘Rytha Samparka Kendras' at the ‘Kasaba' levels in the first phase. In the next phase, all the other Rytha Samparka Kendras (farmers' contact centres) will be networked. There are about 750 contact centres in the state.

From Monday, the agriculture department launched the process of collecting all data on farmers and their lands under the ‘kasaba hobli' jurisdiction. This will be fed into a software relating to agricultural inputs through which supply transactions will be routed.

Training has already been provided to chief trainers who in turn will train those who collect the required information from farmers at the lower level coming within the jurisdiction of the kasaba hobli ‘Rytha Samparka Kendras.'

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha has directed all the taluk-level tahsildars and their staff to take necessary steps in this process of obtaining information from farmers as the copies of ‘Pahani' (land record) of the farmers is required. She has also asked all officials of the agriculture and revenue departments to create awareness among farmers in this regard.
