Fresh reports of the possibility of a breach in the Tajewala barrage have created panic among the people in the low-lying areas. If there is a breach in the barrage then the national capital could face another serious flood-like situation.

The reports of a possible breach have come after more than 2.5 lakh cusecs of water had been released from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana on Monday, which resulted in many low-lying villages and agricultural land in the districts of Yamunanagar and Karnal getting submerged.

On Monday, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda carried out an aerial survey of flood-affected areas. More rains could also spell trouble for the region.

"It's raining above normal in September in Delhi and NCR, Haryana and UP. Uttrakhand will witness heavy rain in next three days," says BP Yadav, Director Weather Forecasting.

Meanwhile, water levels in the Yamuna have risen marginally since Monday night. The river is still flowing well above the danger mark. If floods occur, only low-lying areas along the river will be affected. Residents in sensitive areas were moved to safer ground earlier this week. Authorities are monitoring the situation. The government has appealed to citizens to stay calm.
