Six items prioritised for Prajapatham

The State Cabinet has identified six priorities for this year's Prajapatham mass-contact programme proposed to be held from May first week to solve the people's identified problems.

They are drinking water supply and sanitation; implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) with emphasis on arresting migration of labour; social security benefits like pensions and ration cards; disbursement of arrears to self-help groups under Pavala Vaddi scheme; seasonal diseases with focus on 108 and 104 services; and women and child welfare issues, including anganwadi centres.

Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy told reporters that the dates for Prajapatham would be finalised by the Cabinet sub-committee headed by him.

He said under Prajapatham, toilets and drainage facilities would be provided to 40,000 schools in the State by June first week when they would be reopened for the next academic year.

Water shortage problem would be solved using the sum of Rs.97 crore already released. Work would be provided for 65 days to beneficiaries of the NREGS to arrest labour migration.

Coupons would be issued against the 5.7 lakh ration cards distributed during Rachabanda and Pavala Vaddi dues cleared to self-help groups for the period from April 1, 2011.

Similarly, pensions would be issued to 4 lakh people during the programme. He said new Andhra Pradesh Special Police battalions would be set up in Visakhapatnam and Karimnagar each with a strength of 932.

He said the Cabinet sanctioned 1,864 posts for the two battalions, raging from commandant to constable. There were 15 battalions in the State now.

BC status

The Cabinet approved inclusion of five more communities in the list of the State Backward Classes as recommended by the Backward Classes Commission.

They were Budubunjala (normally found in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy districts), Kurmi (Krishna district and Telangana region), Aasadula (East & West Godavari) and Keuta (Srikakulam).
