JAIPUR: The officials of Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Chanderia in Chittorgarh are under scanner for 'watering' food grain sacks to increase their weight and selling the 'excess' in the black market.

The incident came to light after a home guard at a godown shot a video of supervisors watering the grains. The video was shot on September 27. The home guard filed a complaint with the FCI office in Udaipur on October 14. Following this, a vigilance team from FCI, Udaipur, inspected the godown and found that the allegations were true. The godown has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in recent times. In the last six months, Chanderia police caught at least 20 trucks with food grains from the FCI godown in the black market.

"I was at the main gate and on the fateful day. I got a call to allow a water tractor inside the compound without entering the same in the notebook. Though the office was closed, supervisors unlocked the main gate for the water tractor to enter. I followed the tractor and saw it stopping at the gate of one godown and pumping water on packs of wheat," said home guard Mukesh Kumar in a recorded statement to FCI officials. Though Kumar informed senior officers about the practice, he was asked to keep his mouth shut. "That's why I decided to take the matter to senior authorities outside Chittorgarh."
