Mangaluru: Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) and National Campaign for People's Right to Information (NCPRI) have urged Karnataka government to take stringent action against the killers of city-based RTI activist Vinayak Panduranga Baliga.

Vinayak, who was actively involved in RTI movement, was murdered near his house in the city on March 21. Even as the 13th day rituals of Vinayak was being observed on Saturday, RTI activist and MKSS member Nikhil Shenoy visited the activist's house.

Speaking to reporters Nikhil said the RTI movement that Vinayak commenced should not be stopped. "All RTI documents that the police confiscated should be made public once the investigation is complete. People should take up the cause which Vinayak was fighting. We met senior police officials and they have promised that all the accused in the murder case will be nabbed within a week," Nikhil said.

The MKSS and NCPRI have demanded the state government to take note of the incident and take all necessary steps to prevent recurring of such events in future. "MKSS demands that all information that Vinayak Baliga sought through RTIs be placed in the public domain immediately. All the matters he raised that point to corruption or wrongdoing be investigated by a high level team in a time-bound fashion. The state government should frame rules to the Whistle Blowers Protection Act," he said.

Meanwhile, co-conveners of NCPRI Anjali Bhardwaj, Nikhil Dey and others sent a letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah to expedite investigations in to murder of Vinayak.
