The Meghalaya government today cautioned that some false job letters were being distributed in the state in the name of the Union Rural Development Ministry to mislead job seekers.

"Some vested interests are circulating false job offers purportedly issued by the Project Director, Srimati Indu Sarma, New Delhi, where the letter head carries the National Emblem and the name of MGNREGA Act 2005, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India," an official statement said.

This kind of action is quite likely to mislead prospective job seekers to believe that it is the Ministry of Rural Development that has issued the advertisement.

This is a clear case of misrepresentation, fraud and cheating, punishable under provisions of the IPC and other laws, it said.

Asking the people not to pay heed to such job offers, the government cautioned the public that no such job offers have been made and the letters are purely designed to malign the image and name of the MGNREGA Act and the Ministry of Rural Development.

"The Central and the state government are not responsible for any consequences that arise due to anyone giving credence to such fraudulent letters," the release added.
