An amount of Rs 102 crore has been spent under MG NREGA till date resulting in the generation of 69 lakh Man-days and providing employment to 2,05,361 households by taking up 2,022 development works.

The information was given out at a high level meeting of the Rural development Department convened under the chairmanship of Minister for Rural Development, Panchayat, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar.

While asking the officers to speed up the implementation of the scheme, the Minister said that we have to ensure that the funds earmarked for the current year are utilized to the maximum so that more funds can be projected for the next financial year. He said since the scheme is demand driven there is no dearth of funds and we have to ensure that the benefit reaches to the maximum populace.

Sagar while stressing officers to maintain a contact with the people of the area regarding the implementation and identification of the beneficiaries, Mr. Sagar said that their grievances should be redressed within the shortest possible time. He said that the people should personally contact the Minister of State and directors at their regional levels. By way of the same we would be ensuring transparency and accountability in the same which is key to the success of any scheme, he maintained.

Highlighting the role of social auditing, Sagar said that by this mechanism grievances and complaints, if any can be effectively resolved. He said that the officers who do not complete their targets would be held responsible for the same. The works completed under the scheme should be visible and their effect should felt on ground.

The Minister said that we have to make the rural employment a success story so that more and more people living in rural and far-flung areas get employment at their doorstep which would contribute in changing the socio-economic condition of the area.
