The Group of Ministers on Corruption has asked the Law Ministry to formulate "concrete proposals" on constitutional and statutory amendments that would be required to introduce state funding of elections.
According to a government statement, the Law Ministry had made a presentation to the Group of Ministers on this subject on September 30.

After that the ministerial group had directed the ministry to formulate specific proposals, excluding such areas where consultations with political parties was required, it said.

The Group of Ministers, which has been constituted to consider measures that can be taken to curb corruption, also decided to accept several recommendations made by the expert committee headed by former finance secretary Ashok Chawla on allocation of natural resources.

The Chawla committee, which had studied sectors like coal, minerals, petroleum, natural gas, forests, water, land and spectrum, had submitted its report in July.

A Committee of Secretaries had looked into the report and given its suggestions to the GoM.
