Despite curfew relaxation, Gopalgarh town of Bharatpur district that witnessed communal clashes killing eight people and leaving 22 injured, remained tense for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday.

During the curfew relaxation from 12 noon to 4 pm, most of the shops in the main market remained closed and Meos and Gujjars confined themselves to their homes. Gopalgarh citizens tensely awaited the news of the postmortem of the victims. They wanted to know if the postmortems were completed or not.

Many people were of the view that since the state government has announced a package and a serious probe has begun, peace should be restored in the town.

"I think rather than relying on rumours, it is high time that people try to bring back normal conditions in the town," said Hanif Mohammed, a native of Gopalgarh on Sunday. He opined the state government should not allow anyone to go close to the mosque having bullet marks.

"If the government is serious about the probe it should not let anyone go into the mosque and agencies, including FSL and ballistic experts, should investigate and give their report on the firing at the mosque," he said. Gujjars also remained scared with the developments in the town since Wednesday. "Seven members of our community were injured by bullets and are undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital, but nobody seems to care about them," said Phool Chand Gujjar, a villager.

According to the police, conditions in the nearby Pahari town, however, was near normal with markets open.
