New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal will co-host a "world environment conference" here next weekend to discuss climate change, global warming, dwindling forests, energy resources, loss of biodiversity and other related issues.

Parliamentarians, judges, environmentalists, scientists, lawyers and academicians will be among delegates from across the globe slated to attend the World Conference on Environment-2017, being co-sponsored by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and various Indian government agencies.

The conference will deliberate on vector-borne diseases, water, air borne and bio-accumulative contaminants, and environmental threats to public health the world over that require marshalling of scientific know-how to develop new solutions.

Tribunal chairperson, retired Supreme Court judge Swatanter Kumar, said the March 25-26 conference aimed to deal with key environment issues and challenges over world with major environmental challenges: raising awareness, information, integration, management of environmental resources, besides gearing up towards innovative approaches to environmental remediation and restoration. Finance minister Arun Jaitley will inaugurate the event.

"The world is facing an extraordinary situation in relation to the finite extent of all its natural resources. The conference aims to find solutions, frame policies objectively and transparently which will be acceptable to all stakeholders at large in preventing further degradation of natural resources," Justice Kumar said.

According to him, the conference is another step towards working out approaches that will have repercussions globally on all environmental policies, such as those related to the Paris climate agreement of 2015, forests, wildlife and biodiversity, municipal solid waste, environment and public health, air and water pollution, public health for achieving environmental remediation and restoration.
