Gujarat has written a success story despite being faced with challenges like depletion of water table, deterioration of soil and water conditions due to salinity ingress, irregularity of rainfall and recurrent drought.</p><p align="justify">Actually after assuming office of Chief Minister in 2001, Narendra Modi, now Prime Minister, had a big challenge to open new avenues for the development of the State especially in the agricultural sector. For this, he engaged officials to learn the advanced irrigation technology from other parts of the world for this purpose which helped the State in a big way. Besides, he launched several other schemes to encourage farmers to increase production.</p><p align="justify">Recognising the achievements of the State, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Thursday said that the State's spectacular agricultural growth is due to the efforts of Gujarati farmers and they are the role models for the farmers for other parts of the country.</p><p align="justify">He was speaking at an event &lsquo;Farm-Income Insurance' in Gandhinagar. The Minister promised to launch more &lsquo;Krushi Vigyan Kendra' (Agricultural Science Centre) in different parts of the State in one year. The event is being seen as a precursor of the forthcoming 7th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit-2015 to be held in January 2015.</p><p align="justify">Highlighting the State's achievements, a Planning Commission report says that the agricultural growth rate in Gujarat rose from 3.3 per cent in the 1990s to 11.1 per cent during the decade 2001-2002 to 2011-2012. In fact, the production of cotton, wheat, fruit crops and milk have played a vital role in sustaining the agricultural growth in the State economy.</p><p align="justify">Although, the farmers of Gujarat have shown a move towards cash crops, fruits and vegetables and oil seeds, it is a matter of pride that the total production of food grains crossed 100 lakh MT for the first time in the history of the State in 2010-2011.</p><p align="justify">Similarly recognising the same, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, while speaking at 84th foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 2012, had said that India needs greater technological intervention to produce 350 million tonnes of foodgrains by 2020 to feed rising population and he had cited Gujarat's example which had achieved 9 per cent farm growth against over 3 per cent at national level.</p><p align="justify">He had also praised Gujarat for maintaining 9 per cent agriculture growth rate for the past seven years, adding that the agriculture turnaround story of Gujarat was &quot;an eye opener for the entire nation&quot;.</p><p align="justify">Agriculture continues to contribute 15 per cent of Gujarat's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and provides employment to almost 51.58 per cent of our workforce. About 35 per cent of the land area in Gujarat falls in arid and semi arid zone or along salinity affected areas. Three out of 10 years have also traditionally seen inadequate rainfall. Despite these challenges, the farmers of the State have shown great determination to contribute vigorously to State's overall growth.</p><p align="justify">Last year, another report had quoted the findings of the CARE Ratings according to which the State contributes more than 7 per cent to India's GDP; in particular, it for 13 per cent of manufactured and 11 per cent of primary sector output (mainly agriculture) of the country. Also, at the micro-level, the State records a per capita income of Rs 89,668 (as of 2011-12), well above the national average level of Rs 61,564 for the same year, indicative that benefits of growth are reaching at the individual level.</p><p align="justify">Clearly, the State which was primarily known as India's main business and manufacturing hub till middle of the last decade, has attained huge success in terms of agriculture growth which is attributed mainly  to the visionary leadership of its former Chief Minister Narendra Modi , who launched several small and big schemes for overall growth of the State.</p><div align="justify"><br /></div>

                            <div align="justify">-Niti Central</div><p align="justify"><br />India's western State Gujarat does not have a fertile land and most of its landscape is arid, even then the State has taken a big leap in agriculture sector by maintaining nearly 9 per cent of agricultural growth rate for nearly last one decade. Gujarat has written a success story despite being faced with challenges like depletion of water table, deterioration of soil and water conditions due to salinity ingress, irregularity of rainfall and recurrent drought.</p><p align="justify">Actually after assuming office of Chief Minister in 2001, Narendra Modi, now Prime Minister, had a big challenge to open new avenues for the development of the State especially in the agricultural sector. For this, he engaged officials to learn the advanced irrigation technology from other parts of the world for this purpose which helped the State in a big way. Besides, he launched several other schemes to encourage farmers to increase production.</p><p align="justify">Recognising the achievements of the State, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Thursday said that the State's spectacular agricultural growth is due to the efforts of Gujarati farmers and they are the role models for the farmers for other parts of the country.</p><p align="justify">He was speaking at an event &lsquo;Farm-Income Insurance' in Gandhinagar. The Minister promised to launch more &lsquo;Krushi Vigyan Kendra' (Agricultural Science Centre) in different parts of the State in one year. The event is being seen as a precursor of the forthcoming 7th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit-2015 to be held in January 2015.</p><p align="justify">Highlighting the State's achievements, a Planning Commission report says that the agricultural growth rate in Gujarat rose from 3.3 per cent in the 1990s to 11.1 per cent during the decade 2001-2002 to 2011-2012. In fact, the production of cotton, wheat, fruit crops and milk have played a vital role in sustaining the agricultural growth in the State economy.</p><p align="justify">Although, the farmers of Gujarat have shown a move towards cash crops, fruits and vegetables and oil seeds, it is a matter of pride that the total production of food grains crossed 100 lakh MT for the first time in the history of the State in 2010-2011.</p><p align="justify">Similarly recognising the same, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, while speaking at 84th foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 2012, had said that India needs greater technological intervention to produce 350 million tonnes of foodgrains by 2020 to feed rising population and he had cited Gujarat's example which had achieved 9 per cent farm growth against over 3 per cent at national level.</p><p align="justify">He had also praised Gujarat for maintaining 9 per cent agriculture growth rate for the past seven years, adding that the agriculture turnaround story of Gujarat was &quot;an eye opener for the entire nation&quot;.</p><p align="justify">Agriculture continues to contribute 15 per cent of Gujarat's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and provides employment to almost 51.58 per cent of our workforce. About 35 per cent of the land area in Gujarat falls in arid and semi arid zone or along salinity affected areas. Three out of 10 years have also traditionally seen inadequate rainfall. Despite these challenges, the farmers of the State have shown great determination to contribute vigorously to State's overall growth.</p><p align="justify">Last year, another report had quoted the findings of the CARE Ratings according to which the State contributes more than 7 per cent to India's GDP; in particular, it for 13 per cent of manufactured and 11 per cent of primary sector output (mainly agriculture) of the country. Also, at the micro-level, the State records a per capita income of Rs 89,668 (as of 2011-12), well above the national average level of Rs 61,564 for the same year, indicative that benefits of growth are reaching at the individual level.</p><p align="justify">Clearly, the State which was primarily known as India's main business and manufacturing hub till middle of the last decade, has attained huge success in terms of agriculture growth which is attributed mainly  to the visionary leadership of its former Chief Minister Narendra Modi , who launched several small and big schemes for overall growth of the State.</p><div align="justify"><br /></div>

                            <div align="justify">-Niti Central</div><p align="justify"><br />India's western State Gujarat does not have a fertile land and most of its landscape is arid, even then the State has taken a big leap in agriculture sector by maintaining nearly 9 per cent of agricultural growth rate for nearly last one decade. Gujarat has written a success story despite being faced with challenges like depletion of water table, deterioration of soil and water conditions due to salinity ingress, irregularity of rainfall and recurrent drought.</p><p align="justify">Actually after assuming office of Chief Minister in 2001, Narendra Modi, now Prime Minister, had a big challenge to open new avenues for the development of the State especially in the agricultural sector. For this, he engaged officials to learn the advanced irrigation technology from other parts of the world for this purpose which helped the State in a big way. Besides, he launched several other schemes to encourage farmers to increase production.</p><p align="justify">Recognising the achievements of the State, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Thursday said that the State's spectacular agricultural growth is due to the efforts of Gujarati farmers and they are the role models for the farmers for other parts of the country.</p><p align="justify">He was speaking at an event &lsquo;Farm-Income Insurance' in Gandhinagar. The Minister promised to launch more &lsquo;Krushi Vigyan Kendra' (Agricultural Science Centre) in different parts of the State in one year. The event is being seen as a precursor of the forthcoming 7th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit-2015 to be held in January 2015.</p><p align="justify">Highlighting the State's achievements, a Planning Commission report says that the agricultural growth rate in Gujarat rose from 3.3 per cent in the 1990s to 11.1 per cent during the decade 2001-2002 to 2011-2012. In fact, the production of cotton, wheat, fruit crops and milk have played a vital role in sustaining the agricultural growth in the State economy.</p><p align="justify">Although, the farmers of Gujarat have shown a move towards cash crops, fruits and vegetables and oil seeds, it is a matter of pride that the total production of food grains crossed 100 lakh MT for the first time in the history of the State in 2010-2011.</p><p align="justify">Similarly recognising the same, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, while speaking at 84th foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 2012, had said that India needs greater technological intervention to produce 350 million tonnes of foodgrains by 2020 to feed rising population and he had cited Gujarat's example which had achieved 9 per cent farm growth against over 3 per cent at national level.</p><p align="justify">He had also praised Gujarat for maintaining 9 per cent agriculture growth rate for the past seven years, adding that the agriculture turnaround story of Gujarat was &quot;an eye opener for the entire nation&quot;.</p><p align="justify">Agriculture continues to contribute 15 per cent of Gujarat's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and provides employment to almost 51.58 per cent of our workforce. About 35 per cent of the land area in Gujarat falls in arid and semi arid zone or along salinity affected areas. Three out of 10 years have also traditionally seen inadequate rainfall. Despite these challenges, the farmers of the State have shown great determination to contribute vigorously to State's overall growth.</p><p align="justify">Last year, another report had quoted the findings of the CARE Ratings according to which the State contributes more than 7 per cent to India's GDP; in particular, it for 13 per cent of manufactured and 11 per cent of primary sector output (mainly agriculture) of the country. Also, at the micro-level, the State records a per capita income of Rs 89,668 (as of 2011-12), well above the national average level of Rs 61,564 for the same year, indicative that benefits of growth are reaching at the individual level.</p><p align="justify">Clearly, the State which was primarily known as India's main business and manufacturing hub till middle of the last decade, has attained huge success in terms of agriculture growth which is attributed mainly  to the visionary leadership of its former Chief Minister Narendra Modi , who launched several small and big schemes for overall growth of the State.</p><div align="justify"><br /></div>

Gujarat excels in agricultural growth – role model for India -Mrityunjay Kumar

-Niti Central India's western State Gujarat does not have a fertile land and most of its landscape is arid, even then the State has taken a big leap in agriculture sector by maintaining nearly 9 per cent of agricultural growth rate for nearly last one decade. Gujarat has written a success story despite being faced with challenges like depletion of water table, deterioration of soil and water conditions due to salinity ingress, irregularity of rainfall and recurrent drought. Actually after assuming office of Chief Minister in 2001, Narendra Modi, now Prime Minister, had a big challenge to open new avenues for the development of the State especially in the agricultural sector. For this, he engaged officials to learn the advanced irrigation technology from other parts of the world for this purpose which helped the State in a big way. Besides, he launched several other schemes to encourage farmers to increase production. Recognising the achievements of the State, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Thursday said that the State's spectacular agricultural growth is due to the efforts of Gujarati farmers and they are the role models for the farmers for other parts of the country. He was speaking at an event ‘Farm-Income Insurance' in Gandhinagar. The Minister promised to launch more ‘Krushi Vigyan Kendra' (Agricultural Science Centre) in different parts of the State in one year. The event is being seen as a precursor of the forthcoming 7th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit-2015 to be held in January 2015. Highlighting the State's achievements, a Planning Commission report says that the agricultural growth rate in Gujarat rose from 3.3 per cent in the 1990s to 11.1 per cent during the decade 2001-2002 to 2011-2012. In fact, the production of cotton, wheat, fruit crops and milk have played a vital role in sustaining the agricultural growth in the State economy. Although, the farmers of Gujarat have shown a move towards cash crops, fruits and vegetables and oil seeds, it is a matter of pride that the total production of food grains crossed 100 lakh MT for the first time in the history of the State in 2010-2011. Similarly recognising the same, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, while speaking at 84th foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 2012, had said that India needs greater technological intervention to produce 350 million tonnes of foodgrains by 2020 to feed rising population and he had cited Gujarat's example which had achieved 9 per cent farm growth against over 3 per cent at national level. He had also praised Gujarat for maintaining 9 per cent agriculture growth rate for the past seven years, adding that the agriculture turnaround story of Gujarat was "an eye opener for the entire nation". Agriculture continues to contribute 15 per cent of Gujarat's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and provides employment to almost 51.58 per cent of our workforce. About 35 per cent of the land area in Gujarat falls in arid and semi arid zone or along salinity affected areas. Three out of 10 years have also traditionally seen inadequate rainfall. Despite these challenges, the farmers of the State have shown great determination to contribute vigorously to State's overall growth. Last year, another report had quoted the findings of the CARE Ratings according to which the State contributes more than 7 per cent to India's GDP; in particular, it for 13 per cent of manufactured and 11 per cent of primary sector output (mainly agriculture) of the country. Also, at the micro-level, the State records a per capita income of Rs 89,668 (as of 2011-12), well above the national average level of Rs 61,564 for the same year, indicative that benefits of growth are reaching at the individual level. Clearly, the State which was primarily known as India's main business and manufacturing hub till middle of the last decade, has attained huge success in terms of agriculture growth which is attributed mainly to the visionary leadership of its former Chief Minister Narendra Modi , who launched several small and big schemes for overall growth of the State.
