After the dna report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRM) has asked Maharashtra government to address the farmers issues and look after the compensations package to farmers as well.

After the dna report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRM) has asked Maharashtra government to address the farmers issues and look after the compensations package to farmers as well.

Dna had reported on January 30 that the desperate farmers are selling their livestock and the selling livestock was considered as a last resort to survive for farmers. Most of the farmers had even committed suicides and their families are still waiting for the compensations.

Taking the suo moto cognizance, NHRM stated in its note that in last four years, 2731 farmers had committed suicide and they are not yet received Rs 1 lakh compensations. "It is the serious violations of the human rights of the families of the farmers who committed suicides in state. We had asked the chief secretary of the state to file the report in next two weeks. The commission had decided to club the registered cases in the year 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014."

As per state government data, since 2011 total 5698 farmers had committed suicide in the rural Maharashtra. However, spouses of 2731 victims were found ineligible to receive government aid, either because the deceased did not have a bank loan against the cultivation planned in that season or did not own a piece of land.

Nanasaheb Patil, farmer leader said that the state government is not worried and concern about the farmers issues. "The drought situation in the state is so grave that if the relief is not provided on time, then more farmers will committee suicide in Vidharbha and Marathwada regions. The authority should immediately start the fodder camp so the farmers will able to save the animals and it will curb the sell of the animals to the butchers and farmers suicide as well. Government rejects the compensations to farmers on the flimsy grounds. It is humiliation to the deceased family," Patil said.

Sanjay Patil, the small time farmer from Jalgaon told dna that he is still waiting for the government compensation for his affected crops in hailstorm and untimely rain. "My five acres of wheat and corn crops were totally damaged in December, 2014. Even, the panchnama was done by the local government authority. They told me that the money will be transferred in my bank account which is joined to Adar card account. It has been almost two months but help from the government. The delay in help will worsen my family situations because I have raised the huge loan at high interest rate. We are going through the difficult situations," Patil said.

He further added that recently again the unseasonal rain came and damaged his another field crops. "This time also, they did the panchnama. God knows, when the authority will woke up and start the disbursing the aids to us," Patil added.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Manikrao Thakare sarcastically said that the government may be waiting farmers to die so they can give one lakh compensations to them and that too no guarantee of getting.
