The paper entitled Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on the Indian Economy: A Critical Assessment by R Ramakumar and Tejal Kanitkar provides an analysis of the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in India. First, using secondary data published by various sources, the paper attempts to document the trajectory of the infections and the lockdown in India. Secondly, the paper explains the status of growth and development in the Indian economy over a decade prior to the pandemic. Thirdly, it describes the nature of impacts inflicted by the lockdown in the economy between March 2020 and August 2020. Fourthly, it attempts to quantify the extent of economic losses in India using an Input-Output framework. Finally, it critically assesses the economic response of the Indian government to the pandemic and lockdown.
