Of the 547,698 candidates who appeared for the preliminary exam held in May 2010; 920 — 717 men and 203 women — made the grade. Now, they will be inducted in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) along with other Central services.

Candidates from engineering background seemed to enjoy a distinct edge in the Civil Services Examination, 2010, whose results were declared on Wednesday. Nine, including the second and third in the merit list, got through in their third attempts.

There are 151 vacancies for IAS, IFS (35) and IPS (150). The result of two candidates has been withheld, and candidature of 39 candidates has been declared provisional. The consolidated reserve list includes 242 candidates.

Twenty eight physically challenged, 14 orthopaedically challenged, five visually impaired and nine hearing impaired got selected. While,148 are from the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes (74) and other backward classes (270).
