IT an edffective tool of administration: Gehlot

The chief minister Ashok Gehlot said information technology (IT) is an effective tool to deliver sensitive, transparent and responsible administration which would reduce chances of corruption through transparency.

Gehlot was addressing participants at the inauguration of the two-day e-Governance Leadership Meet at SMS Convention Centre on Wednesday.

The meet has been organised for the state's political and policy officials under the national e-governance programme with the help of the National Institute of Smart Government, Hyderabad.


Gehlot said information technology is a medium for e-governance and we have to bring changes in style of functioning to give the benefit of e-governance to the people. He said people do not accept changes initially but we have to change the mindset. Public representatives and administrative officials have a great responsibility in this respect, he said.

The CM said that the advantage of the IT revolution should reach all sections of the people, including the common man and act as a catalyst to bring about a positive changes in the life of the people. "Rajasthan is the biggest state of the country and ... we should not lag behind in e-governance and the government has directed that 3% of the total Plan expenditure should be spent on e-governance and this could be increased if needed," he said.

Gehlot said the state government made many efforts in e-governance and the benefit of these reaches the people through the public distribution system, MGNREGA, registration etc. He said each department should take responsibility as everything can not be done by IT department alone. The government has initiated training for the employees and more than 20,000 employees are being trained.

The information technology minister Jitendra Singh said the state government is encouraging IT in every sector and the results would be seen shortly in education, health, public distribution system and various other fields.

The chief secretary S Ahmed said the effective impact of is visible in every field. The state government is committed to provide good governance through it, he said.

Union joint secretary, IT, Shankar Lal Agarwal said 40-50 crore people in the country are deprived of quality health and education facilities. Until we bring the growth rate of the nation at 12% to 13% we cannot improve their lifestyle. He assured the Centre would provide assistance to the state government to procure IT resources.

The director general of Unique Identification Authority of India R S Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of National Institute of Smart Government Sanjeev Mittal and others also addressed the inaugural session of the meet. Members of Council of Ministers, senior bureaucrats and e-governance experts were present on the occasion.
