                            <div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">A Maharashtra district judge is employed under a key central government job scheme meant for the poorest of the poor in Jukkal Mandal of Nizamabad district in Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Judge Vijayrao Patel's employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) reflects the rampant corruption in the widely-publicized national job guarantee programme for the village poor.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Patel, a Sholapur district judge, has an MNREGS job card (ID no 09011011038) issued in his name at Gullabig, a village in Nizamabad district bordering Maharashtra. The card names his mother Ahilyabai, father Venkatrao, wife Devata and son Amol. They are supposed to be part of a group of villagers tasked to carry out manual labour under MNREGS. The judge insisted he had nothing to do with the card and blamed it on some ''unscrupulous officials'' out to tarnish his image. Speaking to TOI on the phone, he said he was ''pained by this development''. He said he would write to the Nizamabad collector in this regard.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Patel had migrated to Maharashtra some 20 years ago from this speck of a village. Yet, the MNREGS records said his family had done boulder removal work in the Gullagutta area (work code No 182341709011040230) between April 5 and 10 this year.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">A payment (order No 3985) was issued against this work on April 23. It carried the signature of the mandal parishad development officer and assistant project officer, MNREGS. Normally, field assistants identify beneficiaries of the scheme and prepare a muster roll, figuring out whether they are genuine.                             <div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">A Maharashtra district judge is employed under a key central government job scheme meant for the poorest of the poor in Jukkal Mandal of Nizamabad district in Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Judge Vijayrao Patel's employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) reflects the rampant corruption in the widely-publicized national job guarantee programme for the village poor.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Patel, a Sholapur district judge, has an MNREGS job card (ID no 09011011038) issued in his name at Gullabig, a village in Nizamabad district bordering Maharashtra. The card names his mother Ahilyabai, father Venkatrao, wife Devata and son Amol. They are supposed to be part of a group of villagers tasked to carry out manual labour under MNREGS. The judge insisted he had nothing to do with the card and blamed it on some ''unscrupulous officials'' out to tarnish his image. Speaking to TOI on the phone, he said he was ''pained by this development''. He said he would write to the Nizamabad collector in this regard.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Patel had migrated to Maharashtra some 20 years ago from this speck of a village. Yet, the MNREGS records said his family had done boulder removal work in the Gullagutta area (work code No 182341709011040230) between April 5 and 10 this year.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">A payment (order No 3985) was issued against this work on April 23. It carried the signature of the mandal parishad development officer and assistant project officer, MNREGS. Normally, field assistants identify beneficiaries of the scheme and prepare a muster roll, figuring out whether they are genuine. R Shoba, the field assistant concerned, said she had no clue about the glaring lapse of a judge getting employment under MNREGS.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">But an MNREGS official claimed that of the 2,000 job cards issued in the village, 500 were fake.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div>

                            <div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">A Maharashtra district judge is employed under a key central government job scheme meant for the poorest of the poor in Jukkal Mandal of Nizamabad district in Andhra Pradesh.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Judge Vijayrao Patel's employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) reflects the rampant corruption in the widely-publicized national job guarantee programme for the village poor.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Patel, a Sholapur district judge, has an MNREGS job card (ID no 09011011038) issued in his name at Gullabig, a village in Nizamabad district bordering Maharashtra. The card names his mother Ahilyabai, father Venkatrao, wife Devata and son Amol. They are supposed to be part of a group of villagers tasked to carry out manual labour under MNREGS. The judge insisted he had nothing to do with the card and blamed it on some ''unscrupulous officials'' out to tarnish his image. Speaking to TOI on the phone, he said he was ''pained by this development''. He said he would write to the Nizamabad collector in this regard.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">Patel had migrated to Maharashtra some 20 years ago from this speck of a village. Yet, the MNREGS records said his family had done boulder removal work in the Gullagutta area (work code No 182341709011040230) between April 5 and 10 this year.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">A payment (order No 3985) was issued against this work on April 23. It carried the signature of the mandal parishad development officer and assistant project officer, MNREGS. Normally, field assistants identify beneficiaries of the scheme and prepare a muster roll, figuring out whether they are genuine. R Shoba, the field assistant concerned, said she had no clue about the glaring lapse of a judge getting employment under MNREGS.&nbsp;</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify">But an MNREGS official claimed that of the 2,000 job cards issued in the village, 500 were fake.</div><div style="text-align: justify"><br /></div>

Judge, family have NREGS job card by Raghu Paithari

A Maharashtra district judge is employed under a key central government job scheme meant for the poorest of the poor in Jukkal Mandal of Nizamabad district in Andhra Pradesh.  Judge Vijayrao Patel's employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) reflects the rampant corruption in the widely-publicized national job guarantee programme for the village poor.  Patel, a Sholapur district judge, has an MNREGS job card (ID no 09011011038) issued in his name at Gullabig, a village in Nizamabad district bordering Maharashtra. The card names his mother Ahilyabai, father Venkatrao, wife Devata and son Amol. They are supposed to be part of a group of villagers tasked to carry out manual labour under MNREGS. The judge insisted he had nothing to do with the card and blamed it on some ''unscrupulous officials'' out to tarnish his image. Speaking to TOI on the phone, he said he was ''pained by this development''. He said he would write to the Nizamabad collector in this regard.  Patel had migrated to Maharashtra some 20 years ago from this speck of a village. Yet, the MNREGS records said his family had done boulder removal work in the Gullagutta area (work code No 182341709011040230) between April 5 and 10 this year.  A payment (order No 3985) was issued against this work on April 23. It carried the signature of the mandal parishad development officer and assistant project officer, MNREGS. Normally, field assistants identify beneficiaries of the scheme and prepare a muster roll, figuring out whether they are genuine. R Shoba, the field assistant concerned, said she had no clue about the glaring lapse of a judge getting employment under MNREGS.  But an MNREGS official claimed that of the 2,000 job cards issued in the village, 500 were fake.
