New Delhi: The cumulative value of cash, liquor and other bribes to voters seized by the Election Commission during the Karnataka Assembly polls is Rs 150 crore.

The seizure had been Rs 193.29 crore in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 and Rs 130.99 in Tamil Nadu in 2016.

Director-general (expenditure) Dilip Sharma said 136 expenditure observers, 1,557 flying squads and 2,181 static surveillance teams with GPS-enabled vehicles had been deployed in Karnataka.

The income tax department had stationed 30 district-level teams and air intelligence units in Bangalore, Mangalore, Hubli, Belgaum, Bellary and even Goa's Panaji airport.

The cash seizure amounted to Rs 58.76 crore, almost all of it in Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes - introduced after demonetisation in 2016.

Bangalore Rural and mining hub Bellary accounted for most of the cash seized.

Around 5.45 lakh litres of alcohol worth Rs 24.78 crore, much of it from Bangalore Urban, were seized. Narcotics, mainly marijuana, valued at Rs 39 lakh was seized, with Bidar topping the list. Other seizures included gold, silver, campaign materials, dhotis, saris, vehicles, and electronic items.
