NEW DELHI: With chikungunya and dengue deaths in the national capital on the rise, the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi has come under severe opposition attack.

As the number of deaths due to chikungunya rose to three on Tuesday, the Congress and the BJP attacked the Kejriwal government for doing little .

Two more people died of chikungunya in Delhi on Tuesday, taking the toll from the mosquito-borne disease to three.

"We saw no fumigation this time in the city. If the government doesn't fulfil responsibility how will it work" wondered former Delhi CM and Congress leader Sheila Dikshit.

"It is the government's responsibility to take preemptive steps when this season arrives, (and) before people get sick," she said.

The BJP, meanwhile, questioned the absence of Kejriwal and his top ministers from the national capital during a crisis like this one.

"Arvind Kejriwal who is the chief minister refuses to answer pertinent questions regarding the health of the national capital," said BJP leader Sambit Patra.

Separately, the Centre said it is ready to provide any assistance the state government needs.

"The Centre is also reviewing the situation on a day-to-day basis and a meeting has been called on Wednesday morning which I'll be reviewing myself," Union health minster JP Nadda said.

"The Centre has sent 11 advisories since January to the state government to take precautionary measures in chikungunya cases," the minister said, adding that the ministry is working in co-ordination with the states.

The Union health minister urged residents to increase their liquid intake and to not panic. Instead, he advised them to get treated the minute they see any symptoms.
