                            <br /><div align="justify">-The Telegraph<br /><br />Bengal has rejected a central proposal for direct subsidies to kerosene consumers, fearing the users could spend the funds on other items and prompt Delhi to allot Bengal less of the fuel.<br /><br />&ldquo;This system is not going to help the consumers. We cannot accept it,&rdquo; state food and civil supplies minister Jyotipriya Mullick said.<br /><br />Under the scheme, bank accounts would be opened for the consumers buying kerosene through the PDS. The Centre would send the funds to the states which, in turn, would transfer the amount to the individual accounts.<br /><br />&ldquo;Had we agreed to the Centre&rsquo;s proposal, we would have got Rs 100 crore. The consumers of kerosene are mostly in the rural areas and urban poor. There is a possibility that the money would be utilised to meet some other needs. As a result, the quota of kerosene allotted to us could get reduced,&rdquo; Mullick said.<br /><br />The state has demanded that the kerosene quota be raised from 80,384 kilo litres per month to 1.26 lakh kilo litres.</div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">-The Telegraph<br /><br />Bengal has rejected a central proposal for direct subsidies to kerosene consumers, fearing the users could spend the funds on other items and prompt Delhi to allot Bengal less of the fuel.<br /><br />&ldquo;This system is not going to help the consumers. We cannot accept it,&rdquo; state food and civil supplies minister Jyotipriya Mullick said.<br /><br />Under the scheme, bank accounts would be opened for the consumers buying kerosene through the PDS. The Centre would send the funds to the states which, in turn, would transfer the amount to the individual accounts.<br /><br />&ldquo;Had we agreed to the Centre&rsquo;s proposal, we would have got Rs 100 crore. The consumers of kerosene are mostly in the rural areas and urban poor. There is a possibility that the money would be utilised to meet some other needs. As a result, the quota of kerosene allotted to us could get reduced,&rdquo; Mullick said.<br /><br />The state has demanded that the kerosene quota be raised from 80,384 kilo litres per month to 1.26 lakh kilo litres.</div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">-The Telegraph<br /><br />Bengal has rejected a central proposal for direct subsidies to kerosene consumers, fearing the users could spend the funds on other items and prompt Delhi to allot Bengal less of the fuel.<br /><br />&ldquo;This system is not going to help the consumers. We cannot accept it,&rdquo; state food and civil supplies minister Jyotipriya Mullick said.<br /><br />Under the scheme, bank accounts would be opened for the consumers buying kerosene through the PDS. The Centre would send the funds to the states which, in turn, would transfer the amount to the individual accounts.<br /><br />&ldquo;Had we agreed to the Centre&rsquo;s proposal, we would have got Rs 100 crore. The consumers of kerosene are mostly in the rural areas and urban poor. There is a possibility that the money would be utilised to meet some other needs. As a result, the quota of kerosene allotted to us could get reduced,&rdquo; Mullick said.<br /><br />The state has demanded that the kerosene quota be raised from 80,384 kilo litres per month to 1.26 lakh kilo litres.</div>

Kerosene subsidy damper

-The Telegraph Bengal has rejected a central proposal for direct subsidies to kerosene consumers, fearing the users could spend the funds on other items and prompt Delhi to allot Bengal less of the fuel. “This system is not going to help the consumers. We cannot accept it,” state food and civil supplies minister Jyotipriya Mullick said. Under the scheme, bank accounts would be opened for the consumers buying kerosene through the PDS. The Centre would send the funds to the states which, in turn, would transfer the amount to the individual accounts. “Had we agreed to the Centre’s proposal, we would have got Rs 100 crore. The consumers of kerosene are mostly in the rural areas and urban poor. There is a possibility that the money would be utilised to meet some other needs. As a result, the quota of kerosene allotted to us could get reduced,” Mullick said. The state has demanded that the kerosene quota be raised from 80,384 kilo litres per month to 1.26 lakh kilo litres.
