MIM has appealed to the government for withdrawal of cases against innocent Muslim youth

Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy has directed the police officials to submit a detailed report in about 15 days about the cases registered in connection with the Mecca Masjid blast and the communal disturbances in March, 2010.

The Home Minister held a review meeting with City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan, senior officials, Minister Mukesh Goud and MIM MLAs Akabaruddin, Pasha Qadri, in the Secretariat on Saturday.

Speaker's orders

The meeting was held in the background of an adjournment motion moved by the MIM seeking withdrawal of cases against innocent Muslim youth and the Speaker's direction to the Government to look into the issue.

Mr. Pasha Qadri, MLA, later said they informed the Home Minister that rowdy-sheets and history-sheets were opened even for first-time offenders and appealed to the Government for their removal and spare the youth the police harassment.

The Home Minister said she would consider the request and agreed to convene another meeting soon.

Later speaking to media persons, Ms. Sabitha Reddy said that the police officials were directed to do a case-wise review and submit the details.

Stringent action

She however, made it clear that while a lenient view would be taken towards innocent youth after case by case review, those who had willingly indulged in communal clashes would not be spared.

Other cases

The Minister who also reviewed the cases registered against youth who participated in the agitations for and against State bifurcation said that of 1,667 cases registered, 843 cases had been withdrawn and GOs had been issued for 743 cases and more GOs would be issued in two or three days.

Following the due procedure of review, some cases had been referred to the Law Department.

She said the cases booked under the fifth category -- damage to public and private property -- would also be reviewed.
