Poverty, expansion of cities, climate change &mdash; several things factor into this discussion. Poverty, expansion of cities, climate change &mdash; several things factor into this discussion. -IndiaToday.in Over 80 per cent of surveyed women in Delhi faced sexual harassment but only 1 per cent reported it to the police. The importance of a well-oiled public transport system in cities has become a growing concern lately. Poverty, expansion of cities, climate change — several things factor into this discussion. But this discussion is incomplete without addressing the elephant in the room: rampant sexual harassment faced by women in public transport and urban spaces. The following stats should horrify anyone: 88% of surveyed women in Delhi faced sexual harassment but only 1% reported it to the police More than half of the women in Chennai reported sexual harassment but only 6% notified the police 63% of women in Pune faced sexual harassment on the bus but only 12% reported it to the police 2% of women commuters in Mumbai who had faced harassment approached the police and none were satisfied with the outcome 75% of women railway commuters in Mumbai are unaware of women helpline numbers Please click here to read more.
