JODHPUR: A survey report prepared by the Legal Help and Awareness Committee of the National Law University (NLU-Jodhpur) has pointed out glaring deficiencies in the government schools' educational framework. The committee surveyed 10 schools each in all the 11 blocks of Jodhpur district in July and found that most of the schools were lacking in basic facilities like water, electricity, cleanliness and staff.

Entire logistic support and financial assistance was provided by NLU for this survey, which was conducted by 40 volunteers with respect to the state of education in government schools and implementation of the Right to Education. "The findings of this report and a model for improvement in education, the members of the committee met education minister Vasudev Devnani on Monday and would further be meeting the secretary (school education) next month", said Sohanlal Sharma, registrar of NLU.

The report has also pointed out mismanagement in preparation and distribution of the mid-day meals in these schools, with the meal being prepared on traditional hearths using wood and cow dung cakes.

"These deficiencies and other factors have been causing a consistent dropout in most of the rural government schools", the report said.

The report states the government has provided all the facilities but the negligence in implementation of these facilitates and standards of education and their mismanagement has been taking a toll on education standard.
