Thousands of people came out in support of Anna Hazare's day-long fast at Jantar Mantar. However, there was no dearth of dissenting views either.

The All India Confederation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Organizations protested near the venue, demanding representation for minorities in the Lokpal committee. Their views were echoed in the speeches of leaders of CPI (M) and Samajwadi Party among others, who participated in a debate organized by Team Anna at the protest venue.

"Neither the Jan Lokpal Bill prepared by Team Anna nor the one prepared by the Standing Committee of Parliament has provisions for reservation for Dalits, tribals and minorities. These communities together make up about 85% of the population and, if ignored, the very purpose of the Lokpal Bill will be defeated," said Udit Raj, national chairman of All India Confederation of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Organizations. He said it would fail to meet its objectives if these communities are apprehensive that they may be targeted on the grounds of caste during investigations into charges of corruption.
"We demand reservation in the Lokpal Committee. We have prepared a Bahujan Lokpal Bill and it was presented before the parliamentary standing committee but they chose to ignore it," Raj alleged.

CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat said, "We want that the Lokpal should have representation from the minority communities too." Team Anna members, however, did not discuss the issue. Anna Hazare said that such dissenting views should be ignored, as their aim was to create controversies.

"Everyone has the right to protest in a democracy but I would appeal to everyone that they should not react because we don't want any controversy tagged to our movement," he said.
