NREGA allocation being enhanced to Rs 500 Cr

The Jammu and Kashmir government is going to enhance allocation of funds under NREGA up to 500 crore against the availability of Rs 208 crore for the current fiscal year.

This was stated by the minister for Rural Development, Ali Mohammad Sagar in Assembly while replying to supplementaries to a question of Subash Chander Gupta in Legislative Council today.

He said the scheme primarily envisages providing employment but also works to create durable assets under the scheme and the funds are incurred in the ratio of 60:40, which includes 60 percent as labour component and 40 percent as material component.  He said that 18 Gram Sabhas were conducted in 24 districts of the state so far adding that there was a tremendous response and attendance of people in these meetings. He said state government would approach centre to enhance daily wages from existing Rs 110 to Rs 150 under NREGA.
