The National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes (NREGS), introduced in Sattari taluka in 2008, has started showing positive results.

Sattari Taluka Programme Officer Shivdutta Munj has claimed that out of the 254 proposed works, 154 projects were sanctioned and they have completed 100 works under the scheme, while 15 were under execution.

“So far, 2,679 job cards have been issued to the locals in Sattari taluka and as many as 2,746 workers have benefited under the scheme,” said Munj.

“Since the inception of the scheme, over 2,500 people have been provided employment,” he added.

“Further, 154 works were started after the approval in various villages. Out of these, over 100 works have been completed and less than 50 works are in progress, out which 15 works are in the final phase of completion,” he said.

“The works under the scheme includes construction of kuccha road, digging of ponds, construction and cleaning of drainages, lake cleaning, de-silting of ponds, rural connectivity, setting up of footpaths, shrub cutting, levelling of ground, etc,” said Munj.

He further informed that one of the major and finest works undertaken under NREGS was at Savorde panchayat area.

“The kuccha road built from Panchwada to Kudshe area has been completed in five phases by spending Rs 8,46,368,” said Munj.

Additionally, the officer also said that for the current year, the labour budget for 100 days in Sattari is Rs 8 crore as per the project and requirements. “The work of preparing the files for submission for the requisite is in progress,” he informed.

Munj said Rs 198.71 lakh was sanctioned and Rs 96 lakh had been utilised. “The scheme has attracted village people and has gained good response, as here people earn their livelihood when there are no other avenues of employment in the vicinity,” he stated.

“Total, 29 staff are employed in which one PO and two assistant engineers with one accountant, 12 messenger-cum-peon and 13 Gram Sevaks,” informed Munj.

“With the support and hard work of sarpanchas and panchas of various villages, the scheme’s real objectives are fulfilled.” He said. He further said they take utmost effort in creating awareness of the scheme, which become helpful in popularising the scheme in nook and corner of Sattari.

When contacted, some panchas owes the success of the scheme to the well-trained staff and the co-operative attitude of RDA staff. They also lauded the efforts and enthusiasm of programme officer, which help them to literally implement the scheme successfully.
