AURANGABAD: Over 1,200 anganwadis from the eight districts of Marathwada have registered themselves for getting the prestigious International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO). The divisional administration had set the target to have over 1,000 ISO certified anganwadis in the region under 'Vision 2013-14'.

As many as 431 anganwadis have already been issued ISO certificates in the region. Aurangabad already has the distinction of becoming the first district in the state to receive ISO certification for over 100 anganwadis.

There are over 8,000 anganwadis spread in the eight districts of the region, of which only 350 were ISO certified until earlier this year. The divisional administration took the initiative for getting National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) accreditation to one government school in each of the 76 talukas of the region.

The administration along with NABET accreditation had also planned to triple the number of ISO certified anganwadis in the region. Aurangabad divisional commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal had earlier said that the division has 350 ISO-certified anganwadis and the administration intends to increase the number of to 1,000.

An official said, "Two to three agencies are working for getting the anganwadis in the region certified. As per the latest available figures, 431 anganwadis in the region have already been ISO certified and in addition to this 1,285 have already registered themselves for the certification process. Efforts are being taken to motivate more anganwadis to come forward and register themselves for the certification process."

Official said that that the target set by the divisional commissionorate of having over 1,000 ISO-certified anganwadis will not only be achieved this year but certification would be done close to double the number of the set target.
