Central Information Commission’s to launch Appcoms Locator in March

Soon, Right to Information users can register and track the status of their complaints and appeals online with the launch of Appcoms Locator, a web portal of the Central Information Commission, in March.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a seminar, organised by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, on the Right to Information Act, 2005, here on Saturday, Yashovardhan Azad, Information Commissioner, Central Information Commission (CIC), said the web portal would develop a user-friendly online registration form, help users monitor the status of their complaints and function as a gateway to the Commission. It will also be a repository of the decisions announced by various commissions.

Pointing out that pending RTI complaints had come down from 39,000 to 34,000, he said the CIC would accord priority to clearing pendency and monitoring non-compliance cases. “In the last decade, we have dealt with 2.24 lakh RTI registrations. At present, rejection rate of RTI applications is 7.3 per cent. We want to reduce this,” he said. On the delay in replies to RTI applications, he said it could be due to various reasons such as sheer volume and administrative issues with public authority.
