Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday said that the state government is committed to achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

It has prepared the District Human Development Reports on the basis of MDGs and they will be replicated in all districts soon, he said.

Gracing the concluding session of the programme of the Stand up and Take Action (SUTA) to end poverty by 2015, Patnaik reiterated that poverty has been reduced in Odisha by 7.25 per cent in the last decade.

He congratulated the United Nations Millennium Campaign (UNMC) for taking leadership in bringing all together to a common platform and work towards achievement of MDGs.

The programme concluded with the 'Make a Noise' event where the participants created noise by blowing whistles, beating drums and clapping as a symbolic gesture to attract the leaders' attention to end global poverty.

They also took a pledge to be part of the efforts to eradicate extreme poverty in Odisha, India and the world.

State Coordinator, UNMC, Srabani Das, Dr Ambika Prasad Nanda of the UNDP, Shairose Mawji of the UNICEF, State Information Commissioner Jagadananda and Devyani Dey of the UNV were also present.

Thematic sessions on all the eight MDGs were held on Friday and Saturday by various partners of the UNMC in Odisha.

Development practitioners, thematic experts and Government officials took part in the discussions and debated on how to accelerate the progress of MDGs in the state.

Advocacy papers on each MDGs were prepared which will be presented to the government. A media workshop was also part of the event.
