NEW DELHI: The Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC) and the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) have strongly condemned the murder earlier this week of Bengaluru journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh.

IWPC also expressed grave concern at the language used in a Facebook post threatening violence against Delhi journalist Sagarika Ghose.

A day after Lankesh's killing, an individual, going by the name of VikramAditya Rana, allegedly circulated a Facebook post calling Ghose "anti-national" and advocating she be assassinated like Lankesh.

"The Indian Women's Press Corps "expresses its deep concern at the language used in a Facebook post threatening violence against senior journalist Sagarika Ghose. Coming as it does in the recent backdrop of the heinous murder of woman journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bangalore, we condemn the language inciting violence directed at women media-persons in the social media," said an IWPC statement.

AIDWA, too, condemned threats against women professionals like Lankesh.

"Such a serious crime being committed in the capital city of Bengaluru is alarming and outrageous. It underscores the complete lack of safety in homes and on the streets of a city which boasts of a significant presence of women professionals," said an AIDWA statement.
