Kanpur: The distribution of Aadhar cards assigned to two postmen for delivering them in Gadaria Mohal and Harbans Mohal were found floating in Pandu river near Bingawan village a few days back. The residents of he village had also found scores of Aadhar cards floating in Pandu river on Wednesday last. A probe had been ordered. The district magistrate had directed SDM (Sadar) Yogendra Kumar to conduct an inquiry. SDM (Sadar) talking to TOI stated that initial enquiry had revealed that all the Aadhar cards which were handed over by the villagers were of Harbans Mohal and Gadaria Mohal areas of the city. General Post Office Kanpur nagar had received the Aadhar cards on May 2. The GPO records revealed that they had been given to two postmen namely Pradeep Kumar Katiyar and Ram Achevar Tiwari for distribution. "It appears that the two postmen instead of delivering them threw them at some remote place in the outskirts of the city", SDM said. It was a clear case of dereliction of duty and also a serious matter because the postmen had tried to destroy government documents. GPO officials have sought couple of days' time for conducting a departmental inquiry to ascertain if some other person was assigned the job of distribution of Aadhar cards or not. The SDM stated that he would conclude his inquiry within couple of days and submit the report to the district magistrate for further action.
