-Press release by Right to Food Campaign, dated August 6th, 2020

The Right to Food Campaign has sent a memorandum to the Hon'ble Minister of Women and Child Development Ms. Smriti Zubin Irani demanding to restart the hot cooked meal and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme. It may be noted that most services for women and children have been shut down since March this year i.e. since the time when the nationwide lockdown was imposed.

The extended lockdown periods had resulted in temporary closure of anganwadi/ICDS centres and led to a discontinuation of hot cooked meals, take home rations and immunisation support, counselling, growth monitoring, and so on. Malnourished kids are not receiving supplementary nutrition under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) through ICDS because of discontinuation of growth monitoring services. It is worth noting that supplementary nutrition is given to children (6 months – 6 years) and pregnant and lactating mothers under the ICDS scheme.

Maternity entitlements under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) too have been disturbingly disrupted since March this year.
