Top priority should be given to farmers’ and farm-related issues

Collectors told to monitor the progress of welfare schemes

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has set a six-point agenda for Collectors to provide good governance and to gear up the official machinery for effectively implementing welfare/development programmes in Andhra Pradesh.

During an informal meeting with Chief Secretary S. V. Prasad and CMO officials on Sunday ahead of two-day Collectors’ conference, scheduled from January 20, he came up with the agenda.

Mr. Rosaiah would leave for New Delhi to attend the Chief Ministers’ conference on January 27 convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the rising prices.

A press release issued by CMO said he asked the Collectors to put the district administration on the fast track, maintain constant vigil and monitor the progress of welfare schemes. They should ensure quality of the delivery mechanism, transparency in implementation of schemes, coordinate with departments and people’s representatives and sensitiveness to issues concerning the vulnerable sections.

The Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary and CMO officials would have to supervise the over all implementation of the agenda. The Government would strictly review the performances of the Collectors from time to time based on the above parameters. Mr. Rosaiah wanted the Collectors to regularly visit villages and municipal wards.
