Proper implementation of the Rights To Education Act can solve a host of problems faced by children in the country, NCPCR chairperson Santha Sinha said today."If the RTE is implemented in letter and spirit, many child related cases will be solved on their own," the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights chief said. She expressed concern over non-implementation of RTE in many states and blamed lack of coordination among departments like school and mass education, women and child development, panchayati raj and police."Unless all the departments work in tandem, it is difficult to get actual benefits of RET," Sinha said.Replying a question on the commission not having a policy to stop children from becoming Maoists, Sinha said "If the children are in school, neither the Maoists nor others will get at them. We have to ensure that all children attend school." The commission has asked the state to act in cases of schools having no teachers, liquor shops near them and fees demanded by some government run ones.Unavailability of funds to address problems of children as claimed by many states was not an excuse as the country had enough money to take care of them, she said. The commission held a two-day public hearing on violation issues related to child rights.
