Administrative sanction for 593 works

They include construction of libraries

Rural infrastructure in Tirupur district will undergo a moderate transformation if the improvement plans conceptualised by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) at around Rs. 20 crore for the current financial year materialises at the ground level.

Official sources told The Hindu that as part of the project, administrative sanction had been accorded to 593 works in 45 panchayats at Rs. 9 crore using the funds allocated under Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (All Villages Anna Renaissance Scheme).

The entire 593 works under this component were identified on a priority basis by a committee comprising presidents of respective village panchayats, block development officers (village panchayats), assistant engineers (rural development)/block engineers and village administrative officers concerned.

Guidelines

BDO (village panchayats) ensured that the scheme guidelines were followed during the submission of proposals for administrative sanction.

As part of the AGAMT scheme, construction of bathing ghats, creation of ponds, desiliting of channels, setting up of sports centres and construction of library buildings with a minimum plinth area of 400 sq ft were being taken up.

Books

Books for libraries will be selected by a state-level Reconstituted Committee of eminent personalities.

“The Collector will also be mobilising some books by encouraging donation,” DRDA sources said. Another set of works is the package of 801 works planned at an outlay of Rs. 8.7 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Scheme (RIS).

The scheme was aimed at creating facilities in villages as well as strengthening the assets created under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. These apart, 47 works to improve basic amenities in rural areas will be carried out from the Local Area Development funds of Members of Parliament representing Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and the Nilgiris as the said constituencies were spread into Tirupur district.
