In particular, Tendulkar does not want the fine he paid for occupying his new home without an occupation certificate to be revealed under the RTI (Right to Information) Act.<br /><br />&quot;In Tendulkar's case, he has objected to information pertaining to his home being revealed under RTI to a third party,&quot; the BMC said in a reply to Anil Galgali. The RTI activist had asked the civic body for information about the fine levied on Tendulkar and the amount he paid for occupying his multi-storey bungalow on Perry Cross Road at Bandra. &quot;Civic officials have violated the RTI Act by refusing to furnish the details,&quot; Galgali said.<br /><br />Last year Tendulkar had moved into the bungalow without procuring the mandatory OC. Following a controversy over the &quot;illegal occupancy&quot;, the cricketer paid a penalty to the civic authority.<br /><br />A senior BMC official said, &quot;As per the law, the BMC asked Tendulkar whether the information sought should be provided to the applicant. But the cricketer objected to furnishing of details of the fine imposed on him. Therefore, the former municipal commissioner decided against the applicant.&quot;<br /><br />RTI Act's Section 11(1) requires the public information officer to give notice to a person whose confidential records are requested to be made public. Section 8 says that such information can be denied &quot;if it relates to personal information, the disclosure of which has no relationship with any public activity or interest, or which would cause unwarranted invasion of privacy of the individual&quot;.<br /><br />However, a senior official attached to the chief information commissioner (CIC)'s office was surprised with the BMC's reason for denying the information. &quot;A fine collected from a citizen is public money and an individual can seek information on this under the RTI Act,&quot; he said.<br /><br />RTI activists from Mumbai echoed the view. &quot;Citizens have every right to know the amount of fine imposed and recovered by the BMC from Tendulkar for violating civic norms. The BMC cannot deny the information to the applicant just because it involves a celebrity like Tendulkar,&quot; said Bhaskar Prabhu, convenor of the Mahiti Adhikar Manch. This manch is a group of RTI activists and applicants who create awareness about the RTI Act and take up issues that are in the public interest. <br /></div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">Master blaster and MP-in-waiting Sachin Tendulkar has no-balled public disclosure of his Bandra bungalow details. In particular, Tendulkar does not want the fine he paid for occupying his new home without an occupation certificate to be revealed under the RTI (Right to Information) Act.<br /><br />&quot;In Tendulkar's case, he has objected to information pertaining to his home being revealed under RTI to a third party,&quot; the BMC said in a reply to Anil Galgali. The RTI activist had asked the civic body for information about the fine levied on Tendulkar and the amount he paid for occupying his multi-storey bungalow on Perry Cross Road at Bandra. &quot;Civic officials have violated the RTI Act by refusing to furnish the details,&quot; Galgali said.<br /><br />Last year Tendulkar had moved into the bungalow without procuring the mandatory OC. Following a controversy over the &quot;illegal occupancy&quot;, the cricketer paid a penalty to the civic authority.<br /><br />A senior BMC official said, &quot;As per the law, the BMC asked Tendulkar whether the information sought should be provided to the applicant. But the cricketer objected to furnishing of details of the fine imposed on him. Therefore, the former municipal commissioner decided against the applicant.&quot;<br /><br />RTI Act's Section 11(1) requires the public information officer to give notice to a person whose confidential records are requested to be made public. Section 8 says that such information can be denied &quot;if it relates to personal information, the disclosure of which has no relationship with any public activity or interest, or which would cause unwarranted invasion of privacy of the individual&quot;.<br /><br />However, a senior official attached to the chief information commissioner (CIC)'s office was surprised with the BMC's reason for denying the information. &quot;A fine collected from a citizen is public money and an individual can seek information on this under the RTI Act,&quot; he said.<br /><br />RTI activists from Mumbai echoed the view. &quot;Citizens have every right to know the amount of fine imposed and recovered by the BMC from Tendulkar for violating civic norms. The BMC cannot deny the information to the applicant just because it involves a celebrity like Tendulkar,&quot; said Bhaskar Prabhu, convenor of the Mahiti Adhikar Manch. This manch is a group of RTI activists and applicants who create awareness about the RTI Act and take up issues that are in the public interest. <br /></div>

                            <br /><div align="justify">Master blaster and MP-in-waiting Sachin Tendulkar has no-balled public disclosure of his Bandra bungalow details. In particular, Tendulkar does not want the fine he paid for occupying his new home without an occupation certificate to be revealed under the RTI (Right to Information) Act.<br /><br />&quot;In Tendulkar's case, he has objected to information pertaining to his home being revealed under RTI to a third party,&quot; the BMC said in a reply to Anil Galgali. The RTI activist had asked the civic body for information about the fine levied on Tendulkar and the amount he paid for occupying his multi-storey bungalow on Perry Cross Road at Bandra. &quot;Civic officials have violated the RTI Act by refusing to furnish the details,&quot; Galgali said.<br /><br />Last year Tendulkar had moved into the bungalow without procuring the mandatory OC. Following a controversy over the &quot;illegal occupancy&quot;, the cricketer paid a penalty to the civic authority.<br /><br />A senior BMC official said, &quot;As per the law, the BMC asked Tendulkar whether the information sought should be provided to the applicant. But the cricketer objected to furnishing of details of the fine imposed on him. Therefore, the former municipal commissioner decided against the applicant.&quot;<br /><br />RTI Act's Section 11(1) requires the public information officer to give notice to a person whose confidential records are requested to be made public. Section 8 says that such information can be denied &quot;if it relates to personal information, the disclosure of which has no relationship with any public activity or interest, or which would cause unwarranted invasion of privacy of the individual&quot;.<br /><br />However, a senior official attached to the chief information commissioner (CIC)'s office was surprised with the BMC's reason for denying the information. &quot;A fine collected from a citizen is public money and an individual can seek information on this under the RTI Act,&quot; he said.<br /><br />RTI activists from Mumbai echoed the view. &quot;Citizens have every right to know the amount of fine imposed and recovered by the BMC from Tendulkar for violating civic norms. The BMC cannot deny the information to the applicant just because it involves a celebrity like Tendulkar,&quot; said Bhaskar Prabhu, convenor of the Mahiti Adhikar Manch. This manch is a group of RTI activists and applicants who create awareness about the RTI Act and take up issues that are in the public interest. <br /></div>

Sachin Tendulkar blocks RTI info on fine he paid for Bandra bungalow-Sanjeev Shivadekar

Master blaster and MP-in-waiting Sachin Tendulkar has no-balled public disclosure of his Bandra bungalow details. In particular, Tendulkar does not want the fine he paid for occupying his new home without an occupation certificate to be revealed under the RTI (Right to Information) Act. "In Tendulkar's case, he has objected to information pertaining to his home being revealed under RTI to a third party," the BMC said in a reply to Anil Galgali. The RTI activist had asked the civic body for information about the fine levied on Tendulkar and the amount he paid for occupying his multi-storey bungalow on Perry Cross Road at Bandra. "Civic officials have violated the RTI Act by refusing to furnish the details," Galgali said. Last year Tendulkar had moved into the bungalow without procuring the mandatory OC. Following a controversy over the "illegal occupancy", the cricketer paid a penalty to the civic authority. A senior BMC official said, "As per the law, the BMC asked Tendulkar whether the information sought should be provided to the applicant. But the cricketer objected to furnishing of details of the fine imposed on him. Therefore, the former municipal commissioner decided against the applicant." RTI Act's Section 11(1) requires the public information officer to give notice to a person whose confidential records are requested to be made public. Section 8 says that such information can be denied "if it relates to personal information, the disclosure of which has no relationship with any public activity or interest, or which would cause unwarranted invasion of privacy of the individual". However, a senior official attached to the chief information commissioner (CIC)'s office was surprised with the BMC's reason for denying the information. "A fine collected from a citizen is public money and an individual can seek information on this under the RTI Act," he said. RTI activists from Mumbai echoed the view. "Citizens have every right to know the amount of fine imposed and recovered by the BMC from Tendulkar for violating civic norms. The BMC cannot deny the information to the applicant just because it involves a celebrity like Tendulkar," said Bhaskar Prabhu, convenor of the Mahiti Adhikar Manch. This manch is a group of RTI activists and applicants who create awareness about the RTI Act and take up issues that are in the public interest.
