                            <p style="text-align:justify">-National Herald</p><p style="text-align:justify"><em>Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, said success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence and diversity of opinion</em></p><p style="text-align:justify">Slamming the Narendra Modi government for &lsquo;mishandling&rsquo; the response to COVID-19, asenior AIIMS doctors, has written in a letter to the editor of Indian Journal of Medical Sciences that there were confusing signals on how to deal with the pandemic because the public faces of the government for policy development and communication on this issue are clinicians and bureaucrats (pediatrician, pulmonologist, and Indian Administrative Service officials), rather than epidemiologists and public health experts and virologists.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, under scored that the success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence, and diversity of opinion.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Unfortunately, he wrote, this culture of openness has been conspicuous by its absence when it comes to the government&rsquo;s scientific advisory bodies on the pandemic, perhaps because mostof them comprise government employees.</p><p style="text-align:justify">&ldquo;Transparency in terms of making details of discussion and decisions of scientific advisors to the government public would give the wider scientific community a chance to offer constructive criticism on policies and perhaps help in course corrections.                             <p style="text-align:justify">-National Herald</p><p style="text-align:justify"><em>Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, said success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence and diversity of opinion</em></p><p style="text-align:justify">Slamming the Narendra Modi government for &lsquo;mishandling&rsquo; the response to COVID-19, asenior AIIMS doctors, has written in a letter to the editor of Indian Journal of Medical Sciences that there were confusing signals on how to deal with the pandemic because the public faces of the government for policy development and communication on this issue are clinicians and bureaucrats (pediatrician, pulmonologist, and Indian Administrative Service officials), rather than epidemiologists and public health experts and virologists.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, under scored that the success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence, and diversity of opinion.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Unfortunately, he wrote, this culture of openness has been conspicuous by its absence when it comes to the government&rsquo;s scientific advisory bodies on the pandemic, perhaps because mostof them comprise government employees.</p><p style="text-align:justify">&ldquo;Transparency in terms of making details of discussion and decisions of scientific advisors to the government public would give the wider scientific community a chance to offer constructive criticism on policies and perhaps help in course corrections.                             <p style="text-align:justify">-National Herald</p><p style="text-align:justify"><em>Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, said success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence and diversity of opinion</em></p><p style="text-align:justify">Slamming the Narendra Modi government for &lsquo;mishandling&rsquo; the response to COVID-19, asenior AIIMS doctors, has written in a letter to the editor of Indian Journal of Medical Sciences that there were confusing signals on how to deal with the pandemic because the public faces of the government for policy development and communication on this issue are clinicians and bureaucrats (pediatrician, pulmonologist, and Indian Administrative Service officials), rather than epidemiologists and public health experts and virologists.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, under scored that the success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence, and diversity of opinion.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Unfortunately, he wrote, this culture of openness has been conspicuous by its absence when it comes to the government&rsquo;s scientific advisory bodies on the pandemic, perhaps because mostof them comprise government employees.</p><p style="text-align:justify">&ldquo;Transparency in terms of making details of discussion and decisions of scientific advisors to the government public would give the wider scientific community a chance to offer constructive criticism on policies and perhaps help in course corrections. Senior AIIMS doctor slams Modi govt’s response to COVID-19 in medical journal

-National Herald Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, said success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence and diversity of opinion Slamming the Narendra Modi government for ‘mishandling’ the response to COVID-19, asenior AIIMS doctors, has written in a letter to the editor of Indian Journal of Medical Sciences that there were confusing signals on how to deal with the pandemic because the public faces of the government for policy development and communication on this issue are clinicians and bureaucrats (pediatrician, pulmonologist, and Indian Administrative Service officials), rather than epidemiologists and public health experts and virologists. Dr Anoop Saraya, Head of Gastroenterology and Human Nutrition Unit at AIIMS, under scored that the success of any advisory group of scientists depended on a culture of openness, independence, and diversity of opinion. Unfortunately, he wrote, this culture of openness has been conspicuous by its absence when it comes to the government’s scientific advisory bodies on the pandemic, perhaps because mostof them comprise government employees. “Transparency in terms of making details of discussion and decisions of scientific advisors to the government public would give the wider scientific community a chance to offer constructive criticism on policies and perhaps help in course corrections. Further, open and transparent sharing of data with scientists, public health experts, and the public at large will strengthen pandemic control measures and help in building bottom up consensus in India,” wrote Dr Saraya.
