By canceling the bail of the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri murder case, Ashish Mishra alias Monu, the Supreme Court has restored hope in the justice system

After this order of the Supreme Court, Ajay Mishra Teni should be immediately sacked from the post of minister, failing which SKM will protest nationwide

Justice should be given to the farmers implicated in the Lakhimpur Kheri case and its eyewitnesses should be given protection

---

Today, with the Supreme Court canceling the bail of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni and the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, hope has been restored among the farmers and the people of the country about the justice system. Efforts were on to save the criminals from the very beginning in this heinous murder that took place on October 3, and justice has been achieved only after repeated intervention of the Supreme Court. After this order, there is no justification left for Ajay Mishra Teni to continue in the Union Cabinet.

The brutal case of four farmers and a journalist being crushed in broad daylight by the son of a Union Minister has become a trial for the rule of law across the country. From the very beginning, the government was determined to protect the minister and his son in any way possible and, constitutional norms and legal process have been flouted time and again in this case:

• Before this massacre, on September 26, Minister Ajay Mishra Teni had openly threatened the farmers, but till date no action has been taken on him.

• Even after crushing the farmers in broad daylight, the main accused Ashish Mishra was not arrested till the Supreme Court's reprimand.

• The Allahabad High Court, showing surprising haste, granted bail to the accused on February 10 without hearing the aggrieved side.

• The High Court did not consider the strong possibility of a politically powerful accused influencing witnesses, but made unreasonable remarks on the peasant movement.

• After bail to Ashish Mishra, two main eyewitnesses of this case were attacked, on the other hand, after being released from jail, the accused organized public courts to show his strength.

• Even after a written recommendation by the SIT working under the supervision of a judge, the Uttar Pradesh government did not file an appeal against the decision of the High Court. Ultimately, the families of the deceased farmers had to approach the Supreme Court.

Today's decision of the Supreme Court can become a historical precedent in this context. With this decision, it is hoped that now the culprits in this murder case will be punished according to the Constitution and the law. It is noteworthy that the counsel for the aggrieved party has requested that, while hearing the matter again, it should be sent before a different bench of the High Court.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha would like to remind that even today, many farmers injured in this massacre have not received compensation and the attacks on the eyewitnesses of this massacre are still ongoing. Four farmers implicated in this case are still in jail for murder and their bail application has not even been considered. The terror of Minister Ajay Mishra Teni and his family continues even today at the local level.

The Supreme Court's decision has again made it clear that Ashish Mishra Teni's continuance in the Union Cabinet is the biggest obstacle in the way of fair investigation and justice. After this order, there is no justification for the mastermind of this heinous murder to continue as the Minister of State for Home. Therefore, Samyukta Kisan Morcha once again demands that Ajay Mishra Teni be sacked from the Union Cabinet. If this does not happen, then in the first week of May, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha will hold a national meeting and announce a national protest program.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha, considering this matter as a question of the respect of farmers across the country, has been committed to secure justice in it. The coordination committee of the Morcha has been in touch with the families of the victims and has been providing them legal aid at every step. For taking this case to the Supreme Court effectively and ensuring justice, special thanks to the Morcha Senior Advocate Mr. Dushyant Dave and Mr. Prashant Bhushan, who selflessly stood by the farmers' movement in the fight for the constitutional and legal rights of the farmers.
