A day before UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's visit to the tribal belt of the state, chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Union minister C P Joshi reviewed the preparations at Banswara and Dungarpur.

Sonia would be on a day's visit to Banswara to launch the Centre's flagship rural self-employment programme and lay the foundation stone of the long-awaited ambitious Dungarpur-Banswara-Ratlam rail line project in Dungarpur district.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will also formally announce the state government's programme - Rajiv Gandhi Aawas Yojana —of providing 10 lakh houses to the BPL families in the state.

On Thursday, Ashok Gehlot, C P Joshi and tourism minister Bina Kak reviewed the venues to be visited by Sonia the next day. The flow of senior Congress leaders to Banswara continued through the day. Among those who reached there are Ask Ali Tak, Mahadeo Singh Khandelwal and Dr Jitender Singh.

On Thursday, while interacting with media persons, chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that it is Sonia's love for the people of the tribal belt that draws her to the region.

"She is coming to the region with a big project, which will hugely benefit the residents," said Gehlot.

The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), which previously was known as the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY), will be introduced in a restructured format, focusing on the poorest households who are currently dependent on MGNREGA. Sonia Gandhi would formally launch the mission during a public meeting at Banswara.

The public meeting would be held at a college ground, which can accommodate 3 lakh people.

Special tents have been set up on one side of the ground, where an exhibit on self-help groups (SHGs) and their work will also be held. Gandhi is likely to meet a few representatives of the SHGs there.

Aimed at reaching out to below poverty line (BPL) households through (SHGs), the mission will support its targeted beneficiaries to broaden their livelihood through asset and skill acquisition.

Identifying the potential of the beneficiaries, the mission will provide training and ensure capacity building and credit linkage. The handholding support to the SHGs will be both external and internal.

External support structure will consist of dedicated professional institutions at the statelevel, district level and sub district level whereas internal support structure will have SHG federations at the village level, and block level and later on at district level.
