The Posco opponents have thrown a direct challenge to the police and civil authorities by breaking the road leading to Jtadhari, where the South Korean steel major has proposed to put up a captive port.

The authorities are gearing up for starting work at the steel plant project site near Paradip after the union ministry of environment and forest cleared Posco-India's proposal to set up a 12 million ton steel plant, billed as the biggest FDI project in the country with several riders.

Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), which has been spearheading the agitation against Posco project for the last five years, will finalise its political strategy by February 25th to launch a mass movement to stop Orissa government's move to restart the land acquisition process at the Posco site at Jagatsinghpur.

PPSS spokesperson Prashant Paikaray told "The ET" that the PPSS leaders are in touch with all the political parties including Left and democratic parties to chalk out a political strategy for launching a mass movement to stop the land acquisition process at Dhinkia panchyat. The state police have started the process to surround the areas of the project site. "We are ready to face the police repression", he added.

The reports coming from the project site say that the director general of police Manmohan Praharaj and chairman cum managing director of IDCO Priyabrat Pattnaik visited the project site for a review meeting with the district and police administration for re-starting the land acquisitionprocess.

The villagers of five villages including Dhinkia, Gobindpur, Patana, Noliashai of Dhinkia panchyat got irritated after seeing both the officials. They dig up all the approach roads at 15 points from Jatadhar mouth to Dhinkia on Sunday. The villagers have erected barricades on all the strategic points for entry to the project area and declared that they will not allow any government official or police to enter the project site. The tension prevails in the affected area.

Official sources said, the state government has chalked out an action plan to re-start land acquisition process at Dhinkia panchayat. After visiting the project site, IDCO CMD said that IDCO would re-start approach road and construction of boundary wall for the proposed Posco project on government land soon.

Meanwhile, the POSCO baiters on Sunday evening took hostage about four Hyundai company employees in Dhinkia village when the victim foreign nationals were on their way to IOCL project site to inspect their works and mistakenly entered the trouble torn proposed POSCO site Dhinkia village. Later they were released.
