Tamil Nadu has been highly successful in implementing the concept of Industrial Facilitation Council, which helps small units address the problem of payment default by their clients and get back their dues, according to G. Sundaramurthi, Industries Commissioner and Director of Industries and Commerce,

Speaking to journalists here on Friday, he said that Tamil Nadu's achievements in implementing this concept were recognised nationally. In a recent meeting of Industry Ministers of all State at New Delhi, Tamil Nadu was asked to give a presentation.

He was here to address a seminar on MSME Schemes and Cluster Development organised by Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and District Industries Centre (DIC).

He said that in the past year, 152 claims involving a total sum of Rs. 4.33 crore were settled. One claim for a Chennai unit alone amounted to Rs. 2.66 crore.

Utilising this Council freed small units from getting entangled in prolonged judicial proceedings. The State was also a front runner in implementing the Central Government's flagship scheme of Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). Even though Tamil Nadu was initially set a target of Rs. 18 crore, it was revised upon the State's request to Rs. 49 crore.

Speaking about other measures to boost micro, small and medium enterprises, he said that while the State had given Rs. 18 crore in capital subsidy during 2008-09, the next fiscal's performance saw the figure almost double as Rs. 30 crore was disbursed.
