JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring better implementation of the Right to Information Act and asked the officials to take “firm steps” to enforce compliance with the statutory provisions.

Presiding over a review meeting on the RTI Act at the State Secretariat here, Mr. Gehlot said a relatively better implementation of the law in Rajasthan had been appreciated all over the country. However, he expressed concern over the delay in the implementation of the State Information Commission’s decisions. Mr. Gehlot asked State Chief Secretary T. Srinivasan to pay attention to execution of decisions in order to make RTI more effective and apprise the common people of its significance.

According to an official release here, the Chief Minister issued instructions to all departments of the State Government to suo motu release the relevant information and especially provide details of the construction work on notice boards at the sites.

Mr. Gehlot felt that proper training and wide publicity to the right to information would help the much talked about legislation achieve its stated objectives. The Information Commission could devise a useful programme for training, for which the State Government would provide the necessary budget, he added.
