The Andhra Pradesh government has begun consultations with all political parties to find a solution to the farmers’ crisis, the issue on which former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been continuing an indefinite hunger—strike for the last one week.

An all party meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy began here, to resolve the crisis that erupted after farmers lost their crops in the recent rains.

Mr. Naidu remained steadfast in his resolve to continue the fast despite persuasion from all quarters to give it up.

Doctors at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences said his condition is “stable” but deteriorated further compared to Wednesday.

“The potassium levels in his body have dropped significantly while the sodium levels have shot up causing concern. He has to take fluids immediately but the former Chief Minister is refusing to do so,” the NIMS doctors said, after a fresh examination of the fasting leader this morning.

Praja Rajyam Party president K. Chiranjeevi visited Mr. Naidu in the hospital today and appealed to the latter to give up the indefinite fast.

Mr. Chiranjeevi enquired with doctors about Mr. Naidu’s health condition.

The PRP chief demanded that the government make adequate changes in the relief package announced to calamity—hit farmers and make the Leader of Opposition end the fast. .

“Mr. Naidu’s condition is alarming,” Mr. Chiranjeevi said.

Meanwhile, the TDP and the Left cadres organised road blockades on all state and national highways in the state.

In Guntur district, the protestors torched a state road transport corporation bus while they damaged the window panes of some buses in few other places, police sources here said.

Scores of TDP, CPI and CPM workers were taken into custody in connection with the agitation.
