Contact tracing, active surveillance for influenza-like illnesses, and separate Covid care facilities for suspected and confirmed cases are a few of the new measures suggested by the Centre

Amid the second wave of the pandemic sweeping across the country, the Centre on Sunday issued a new set of guidelines to contain the spread of the virus in peri-urban and rural areas.

This development comes just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a Covid review meeting, where he called for augmenting healthcare resources in rural areas to focus on door-to-door testing and surveillance.

Asserting that localised containment strategies are the need of the hour, Modi had asked officials to provide ASHA and anganwadi workers with all necessary equipment in tackling the virus.

Meanwhile, India logged 3.11 lakh fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally of infections to 2,46,84,077.The national Covid death toll climbed to 2,70,284 as the country reported 4,077 new fatalities on Saturday.

Amid these developments, the Centre issued a new set of guidelines and urged healthcare authorities in rural areas to set up a minimum 30-bedded COVID Care Centre for asymptomatic cases with comorbidities or mild cases where home isolation is not feasible.

Provision of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kits should be made at all public health facilities including Sub-centres or Health and Wellness Centres and Primary Health Centres, the Union health ministry stated in the new guidelines.
