Tripura gets Rs 414.44 cr from Centre

Impressed with last year’s success in implementation of NREGA in Tripura, the Centre has released Rs 414.44 crore as first instalment in the current fiscal, the highest among the seven north-eastern states, reports PTI.

“Tripurahas been given Rs 414.44 crore as first instalment of the total outlay of Rs 1149 crore which is highest among the seven north-eastern states,”Tripura Minister for Rural Development, Jitendra Chowdhury told reporters today.

Claiming that the state had secured top positionin implementing NREGA last year, Chowdhury said, “the state’s achievement in the NREGA might have prompted the Centre to release fundsearly and that too highest among the NE states.”

“WhileAssam received Rs 119.56 crore, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalyareceived Rs 86.05 crore, Rs 68.02 and Rs 57.73 crore respectively,” he said.

He said, the state government would continue to focus on creation of permanent assets particularly on road connectivity, creation of dams, and flood management programmes. “There must be consistency to implement the national flagship programme in a proper way,” he said.

Chowdhury said that the state government had also put forward a Rs 400 crore proposal for a project to rehabilitate beneficiaries allotted land under the Forest Dwellers’ Right Act.

“We have already allotted land to them, but the money for their resettlement is yet be released,” he added.
